Baby Swings-Why They Are So Popular Today

Walk past any playground, peer into any nursery and you’ll see happy babies swinging contentedly. The regular swinging motion calms babies. To meet the high demands of fussy babies there are a variety of baby swings on the market of baby soothing devices. None of these things work like the baby swings. Substitute arms are sometimes necessary to save a parent’s sanity, or at least allow mother to get something done around the house that’s where the baby swings come in to play.

Baby swings are particularly useful during stretch of time in the late afternoon to early evening when you’re busy preparing dinner and babies are seem to know when you are at your busiest. Try winding up your mechanical baby swings to calm down a fussy baby. The tick docking sound plus the motion will usually settle an upset baby. Some newer baby swings even oscillate in a circular motion rather than the traditional back and forth motion.

Sometimes it is best to borrow a swing or try one out on your baby at the store to avoid investing in something that your baby will hate. While some babies won’t settle for less than the highest tech baby swings you know the ones that have all the bells and whistles, others will calm with just any swing. Some babies prefer the swings on ropes over the mechanical ones with their rigid supports; they like to sway in different motion rather than swinging from front to back. Some babies don’t like any type of baby swings; perhaps they get dizzy. In that case, it’s back to the human swing.

Baby Swings Soothe Baby To Sleep

Start by rocking him in his baby swings until he is very sleepy, but not asleep. Then place him gently in the crib and stay with him until he falls asleep. Place your hand gently on his head or tummy to remind him that you are there and all is well.

Gradually begin to exit his room earlier in this process until you get to the point where your baby swings  rock him until sleepy, put him in his crib and walk right out of the room. He will learn how to soothe himself to sleep.

Eventually, you will not need the baby swings to rock your baby to sleep at all. Within this time period, your baby should also learn to sleep through the night.
